Northern
Alliance continues to insist on their demand that Britons should leave air base
in Bagram. Representatives of Rabbani gave several statements in regard to this,
clearly hinting, that presence of Britons in Bagram is extremely undesirably and
can lead to aggravation of situation.
However,
representatives of the government of Great Britain stated that «Northern
Alliance» permitted deployment of troops in the region of air base Bagram to
the north from Afghan capital. In the interview of BBC, British official
representative Ben Bredsho said that government carried out consultations with
Alliance in advance and interpreted its response that there will be no problems
with debarkation of British servicemen. At the same time, as reports Telegraph,
press-secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Great Britain stated that British
servicemen will not leave Bagram air base.
Thus,
London clearly rejected the demand of Tajik Rabbani to leave Bagram. Indicating
that British soldiers arrived to Afghanistan according to the agreement with
Northern Alliance, London bear in mind, first of all, Uzbeks and
Hazaras-shi’its, who also formally enter into alliance. However, it is already
today obvious that split between groupings of Northern Alliance is getting
strength. And the demand of Tajik from Britons is only the visible part of the
iceberg of existing differences.
At
the same time, situation in southern and southeastern regions of Afghanistan did
not change. Fighters of Taliban as before hold their positions in Kandahar and
even in several Pashtun’s provinces, and northern territories of Konduz and
Khanabad. The periodically appearing information about the news, that Taliban at
any moment will leave Kandahar, was not confirmed. In any case, Afghan command
is not intended to surrender its positions in this region. On latest information
from different sources in Pakistan and Afghanistan, mutiny of pro-American
Pashtuns, armed in the territory of Pakistan and crossed into Kandahar area, was
practically choked. Taliban strengthen their positions. The advance units of the
Afghan troops took under their control road for Herat and advanced block posts
in 200 kilometers from this city. The remaining territory of Afghanistan is
actually divided into spheres of the influence of separate ethnic groupings.
Meanwhile
arrived reports, that after American-British bombardments in the territory of
Afghanistan remained more than 5 thousand unexploded ammunition, including
cluster bombs, which present large danger to innocent civilians. With this
warning came forward international Human Rights Watch organization. As reported
by its Islamabad representative, Sam Ziya Zarifi, Human Rights already have
information about numerous victims as a result of the wear and tear of cluster
bombs. Representative of Human Rights Watch called for the immediate restriction
of the use in Afghanistan of this type of weapon. Although it is not forbidden
by international law, «it causes more harm to peaceful inhabitants, than
military benefit», emphasized Human Right Activist. Sam Ziya Zarifi recalled
that shells of cluster bombs, painted in bright colors, as a rule in yellow,
attract first of all, attention of children. Furthermore, always it is not
possible to distinguish these by color from packets of humanitarian aid, which
are also jettisoned by American servicemen from air.
