Hope for settlement is destroyed

At dawn on Monday, aircraft Su-25 violated airspace of the Georgia and made bombardment on vicinities of Georgian villages.

On Tuesday, chairman of the Georgian parliament, Zurab Zhvania sent the letter to the chairman of the State Duma of Russia, Gennady Seleznev and to the leaders of the corresponding committees, in which he declares, that the events in Kodori Gorge «destroyed» the hope for settling of Russian-Georgia relations, which appeared in the Georgian community after the recent visit to Moscow by delegation of the highest legislative organ of Georgia.

Zurab Zhvania calls Russian associates to begin to operate all available levers at their disposal for the purpose of the primitive prevention of the escalation of events and to prove the effectiveness of inter-parliamentary diplomacy. At dawn on Monday, the aircraft Su-25 violated airspace of Georgia and made bombardment in the vicinities of the Georgian villages of Adzgara and Ptishi in Kodori Gorge. According to the information of the ministry of defense of Georgia, the aircraft appeared from the direction of Russia. Marukh crossing and its adjacent territory were subjected to bombardment on 28 October with six combat helicopters Mi-24 and four attack aircraft.

Meanwhile Sukhumi, after repeated refutations about its participation to the bombardments on Kodori Gorge unexpectedly recognized itself as responsible for bombardment of the Georgian villages of Upper Kodori Gorge on Sunday and Abkhazian aviation bombed Monday, while attempting from air to liquidate the group of Chechen commander Ruslan Gelayev, representatives of official Sukhumi assert. Meanwhile as Georgian side notes, in the data of Abkhazian sources, there is confusion in the designation of precise places, which were targeted to the bomb attacks. Georgian side expresses distrust to similar claims and charges Russian servicemen of the bombardment Of the Kodori Gorge.

Head of security service of Abkhazia, Raoult Khadzhimba stated on the telephone to agency Prime-News that Abkhazian aviation «successfully completed three-day operation against the group of Ruslan Gelayev in that controlled by Sukhumi government of the upper part of the Gulripsh district». Khadzhimba did not elaborate, what information is available to Abkhazian side about the present location of Ruslan Gelayev and his group. It is known only that the group of Gelayev sustained «serious losses», claims Ratsl Khadzhimba. Chief of General Staff of the Abkhazian armed forces, Vladimir Arshb, stated the same. In this case, Arshba calls the targeted place of rocket- bomb attacks as the territory Of Svanety, which is controlled by Georgian authorities.

Chairman of the acting in Tbilisi «Supreme council of Abkhazian autonomous republic», Tamaz Nadareishvili did not confirm information about the fact that Abkhazian aviation in the recent three days carried out any operations. According to him, Abkhazian side simply attempts to take upon itself responsibility for the bombardments of Georgian territory with Russian aviation.

«Russia attempts to prove its non-participation in these bombardments and forces Sukhumi to take responsibility for this by representatives of Sukhumi authorities», said Tamaz Nadareishvili. He claims that there are only two attack aircraft Su-25, six transport helicopters Mi-6, five aircraft L -39 of the Czech production in arsenal of Abkhazian army and there is not even one combat helicopter Mi-24, which participated in the bombardments.

Whatever alleged representatives of Sukhumi authorities, Georgian side accurately fixed that the territory of the Georgia was bombed by four Su-25 and six Mi-24, that entered airspace of Georgia from the direction of Russia and, after making bombardment, these flew back in the direction Of Karachay-Cherkessia, declares Tamaz Nadareishvili.

President of Georgia, Eduard Shevardnadze in the traditional radio-interview on Monday actually accused Russia for the bombardments of Georgian territory. According to him, the aircraft and the helicopters, which participated in these air strikes, entered airspace of Georgia from the Russian side.

Against this background, Georgian parliamentary fraction "Traditsionalist" begins consultations with all factions of the highest legislative organ regarding the exit of Georgia from CIS as was stated at the press conference in Tbilisi by the leader of traditionalists, Akaki Asatiani, about the results of consultations will become known at the end of the week. According to him, in the course of discussion of the question about the exit of the country from CIS will be clarified all doubts in connection with the fact, that who is opposition in the parliament. He considers that the position of fraction «New right» will solve the view on this problem of the President of the country, Eduard Shevardnadze, and the exit of Georgia from CIS will support fraction «XXI century» and part of «Union of citizens».
Chairman of Supreme Soviet of the Adzhar autonomous republic, Aslan Abashidze considers the exit of Georgia from CIS as inadvisable, noted Akaki Asatiani. Georgia became member of CIS in 1993.
