Hekmatyar,
leader of party «Hizb-i-Islami» (Islamic Party), one of the leaders of Afghan
mujahideen, who fought against Soviet troops. After the conclusion of the Soviet
troops and collapse of the pro-Soviet regime
of Najibullah,
he entered into the government of national unity
headed by President Rabbani, and became prime minister (1993). In 1994, he
allied with General Dostum and with the support of Iran began war against
Rabbani. In 1996, again he united with Rabbani for the joint fight against
Taliban.
In
the autumn of 1996, troops of the movement of «Taliban» occupied Kabul and he
along with Rabbani had to take shelter in Iran. Until now Hekmatyar is
considered as one of the most influential Afghan politicians. He is considered
to be responsible for the death of several thousand people, killed by his
supporters in Kabul. At the time of his being premier minister, he pursued women,
who used cosmetic. After the beginning of the anti-terrorist operation of USA,
Hekmatyar made a number of contradictory statements. We give fragments from his
last interview, published in the periodical «Jane’s Defense Weekly».
«Americans
plan to occupy Afghanistan and to impose the marionette regime in my country,
which will allow it to set up military bases in this region - struggle with the
terrorism is only an excuse for this.
USA
and Russia might have concluded the transaction: America shuts eyes to what
Russia does in Chechnya. Or Russia simply observes the fact, that America
commits error, introducing friendly forces into Afghanistan, also this was made
previously USSR, Russia dreams to see the defeat of America.
Sooner
or later, America will be forced to send friendly ground-based forces into
Afghanistan. Americans calculate, that the Northern alliance will be their force
on the ground. But this hope will not operate: in the Northern alliance, there
is no unity and there are no possibilities for the victory. Russia has great
influence on the Northern alliance and Northern alliance will not storm Kabul.
It makes something only on the order from Moscow. Russia will not return this
order until it ascertains that it will have strong influence on the future of
Afghan government.
If
America will send allied ground-forces to Afghanistan, we will unite and will
begin war against the foreign aggressor. Everyone, who fought against the
Russian troops, will also fight against the American. And there is no doubt that
we will conquer. We will forget our contradictions and will be combined against
the common enemy.
The
technological superiority of USA does not play role. We will fight them
accurately, as we battled with the Soviet troops. America will not withstand
lasting war. Syndrome of zinc coffins will begin in it. USA can send 50-80
thousand of his soldiers into Afghanistan. But what will happen?! Russians kept
its 80 thousand soldiers, and sometimes their number reached to 120 thousands.
Russians could remain till 10 years. Americans will be sufficient one year. I
destroyed Soviet troops. I will destroy Americans, if they go by the same way.
America makes the same errors as that of USSR.
I
speak against the idea to create the ruling coalition headed by the former king
- Mohammad Zahir Shah. Pashtun will support no government under
the leadership of Zahir Shah. All Pushtun on the Earth are against him. Zahir
Shah – he is American Babrak
