assistant to president of Abkhazian Republic, Astamur
Tania has
given exclusive interview to agency «Kavkaz-Center».
Question:
What is the situation on your data in Kadori Gorge?
Astamur:
On
our data, in area of «Sakharnaya Golova»,
local
fights with formations of Ruslan Gelayev and Georgian groupings are proceeding.
In these groups, which we consider as terrorist, there are Chechens, Georgians,
(basically swans), and representatives of some North Caucasian republics and
countries of Middle East. Besides on our data, Georgians are directing the
personal representative of president Shevardnadze in Svanetia. Our command
informs, that today there was firing and skirmishes in various directions.
According to investigation, Georgian-Chechen formations try to make their way
out of a zone of blocking. However it is possible, that it is simply distracting
maneuver and their purposes are others.
Captured
insurgents, whom we have grasped some days back, have told, that the purpose of
these formations was Sukhumi and Sochi. At the same time, by that discipline
among insurgents is very rigid, it is possible that private soldiers do not know
ultimate goals, which are pursued by their heads.
Question:
On Thursday, it was informed, that Abkhazian aircraft bombed Kodori Gorge?
Astamur:
Yes
we confirm, that our aircraft bombed Kodori Gorge. Attacks were rendered on
congestions of insurgents.
Question:
As far as participation of Russia in this conflict is probable?
Astamur:
President
Vladislav Ardzinba
officially addressed to Russia with an appeal urgently to interfere and not to
allow beginnings of war. Ardzinba addressed to Putin, as to the country of
intermediary and to the country of guarantor of peace process in region. We have
enough forces, therefore speech is going about political pressure upon Georgia.
Question:
Parliament of Georgia has made the decision on a conclusion of so-called
peacemaking forces from Abkhazia. How far is it real?
In
1994, at intermediary of Russia, we have signed agreement with Georgia about
entry on a line of confrontation of peacemaking contingent. Basically both sides
- both Georgia and Abkhazia - can demand a conclusion of peacemakers. But it
needs the consent of both sides.
Question:
As far as statements, however, are real, that armed divisions, which are in
Kodori Gorge, plan to attack on Sukhumi? Probably this group has other targets?
Astamur:
We
are sure, that behind actions of this group is the Georgian special services.
Therefore, whatever may be the purposes of insurgents, the purpose of the
Georgian special services is to grasp Sukhumi.
