The
most influential Islamic organizations of Pakistan condemned USA and Great
Britain military attacks made on Afghanistan, having named them «attack on
Islam» and the reason for the beginning of sacred war - Jihad. Pakistani
sources inform, that Islamic organizations has called for Jihad against USA and
their allies.
On
some data, about 30 armed movements and organizations of Pakistan are going to
undertake concrete actions in support of Afghanistan. The leader of «Defence
Council of Afghanistan» Riaz Durana, whose headquarters are in Lahore, declared:
«It is the duty of every Muslim to support their brothers in this critical hour.
We render Afghans moral and military support against American aggression».
The
leadership of the most influential Islamic political party of Pakistan «Jamaat-e-Islami»
named attacks on Afghanistan «attack on Islam». The secretary-general of this
organization, Munawar Hassan called for arranging of meetings of the protest and
emphasized, «army of Pakistan disagrees with Musharraf».
On Monday,
president of Pakistan, speaking to press conference in Islamabad, denied reports,
that air attacks on Afghanistan were organized from territory of Pakistan.
However, he recognized, that the American military men used the Pakistani air
space. Pervez
Musharraf considers that people of
Pakistan completely supports his government. At the same time, in city of Quetta
on Monday massive protest demonstrations began against actions of USA and
against Pervez Musharraf himself, who was accused of treachery to Islamic
interests. Protest actions, according to various agencies, already have
developed into actions of disobedience to authorities and large disorders. In
the city, shops do not work. Demonstrators burn motor vehicles and attack
administrative establishments.
At the
press conference, general Musharraf tried to convince foreigners not to leave
Pakistan. He assured, that in his country business life proceeds and foreigners
do not have necessity to leave in connection with bombardments of Afghanistan.
It is
interesting, that Musharraf considers, that attacks on Afghanistan should not
strengthen «Northern Alliance». He informed, that he has warned Bush about it.
However, practically all American official representatives declare, that exactly
with the help of «Northern Alliance» is planned to discharge Taliban of
authority. In this connection, it is not absolutely clear, that in what degree,
Islamabad can influence the situation. However, already today it is clear, that
positions of Musharraf himself inside the country has considerably weakened and
it is possible, that among army officers, there was a real opposition which,
under certain conditions, can raise for displacement of the head.
