In
territory of Kodorsky gorge of Gulripshsky district
of Abkhazia controlled by Georgian authorities, there are no armed formations,
and they, naturally, do not conduct there any operations. Defence Minister of
Georgia made such an announcement. In the document, it is emphasized, that the
report published by MASS MEDIA, that divisions of Georgian army took part in
armed conflict at village Georgievskoe, do not correspond to validity.
Administration
of the Defence Ministry of Georgia within the framework of its competence
provides safety to the population of that part of Kodorsky gorge, which remained
under jurisdiction of the central authorities of the country after
Georgian-Abkhaz war of the years 1992-1993, it is marked in the announcement.
Defence Minister of Georgia declares, that it is ready to co-operate with it, so
that employees of mission of military observers of the United Nations might
introduce with the situation in territory of Kodorsky gorge controllable by the
Georgian authorities.
In
the meantime, Abkhazian side continues to pronounce, that there were fights in
village Georgievskoe. Moreover, Sukhumi declares, that group, «with which the
Abkhazian side conducted battles for village Georgievskoe, was commanded by
Chechen field commander Ruslan Gelayev». Prime Minister of Republic of
Abkhazia, Anri Jergenia, declared it to journalists in Sukhumi. Jergenia also
informed, that basic purpose of the group of Gelayev was to make a way into
Russian resort city of Sochi, and also an attack on the Russian armies, which
were deployed in Abkhazia.
«Group
in whose structure were about 400 Chechens, all over again planned to grasp
village Tsebelda in Abkhazia to create there a base camp, and to carry out then
the operations from there», - told Anri Jergenia. Foreign Minister of Abkhazia,
Sergey Shamba declared this, referring to indications of detainees. As he said,
«insurgents intended to sow a panic in Sochi».
