Shevardnadze does not know about connections of Chechens with bin Laden.

President of Georgia, Eduard Shevardnadze during his official visit to USA, welcomed aspiration of Moscow «to assist Washington in struggle against international terrorism». As informed in the press-service of the president, Eduard Shevardnadze, speaking at the meeting organized by American - Georgian business council named this aspiration as «encouraging» and expressed hope, that it will result in closer relations of Russia with the West. As he said, «integration of Russia with the West is very important, as promotes the achievement of greater predictability, stability and safety in the world». 

Speaking about the position of Georgia in this question, Eduard Shevardnadze declared, that his country is ready to bring in feasible contribution to struggle against terrorism. In this connection, he assured to gathering that he does not know it about connections of Osama bin Laden with Chechen mujahideen, otherwise he would at once have informed about it to the president of USA. Concerning the situation in Chechen Republic, Eduard Shevardnadze declared, that absence of peace in this republic creates many problems for official Tbilisi, including introduction of a visa system by Russia, Chechen refugees, attempt of Moscow to put pressure upon Georgia for supposedly rendered protection of Chechen fighters. On Friday, Eduard Shevardnadze's meeting is planned with the president of USA George Bush.

In the meantime, situation in Abkhazia still is not clear. In connection with fights between Abkhazian parts and Georgian-North Caucasian group for village of Georgievskoe of Gulripshsky district, the situation in this republic was discussed by phone on Friday by special representative of the Secretary-General of United Nations, Diter Boden and Prime Minister of Abkhazia, Anri Jergenia. As informed Diter Boden, Abkhazian side yet did not declare refusal to arrive to Tbilisi on October 9 for negotiations within the framework of Coordination Council) under aegis of the United Nations. 

Diter Boden noted, that in United Nations is expressed anxiety on situation in Gulripshsky district. In the evening, main military observer of the United Nations, Pakistani general Anis Akhmed Badzhva, who will inform about last details of conditions in Abkhazia, arrives to Tbilisi in a zone of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict. On data of Diter Boden, Georgian-North Caucasian group has left village of Georgievskoe occupied during day. He could not confirm the information of Abkhazian side that this group was prepared in Pankissky gorge of Georgia by Arabian instructors.

Earlier Sukhumi declared about capture of two fighters from structure of this group - one Georgian and another Chechen. However, Abkhazian side till now does not name the surname of the «arrested Chechen». Agency «Abkhaz-Press» does not have information on the «arrested Chechen». According to agency, the detainee declared himself from Kabardino-Balkaria.
