Moscow pushes Georgia and Armenia to war

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is not going to soften its position in a question on performance by Russia of positions of the Contract on usual armed forces in Europe.

The editor - in - chief of the opposition Yerevan newspaper «Aikakan Jamanak» («Armenian time»), Nicol Pashinyan counts that last events testify that during recent visit of the president of Russia to Yerevan, Robert Kocharyan received the assignment from Vladimir Putin «to run down» on Georgia. As writes Nicol Pashinyan in latest number of the newspaper, «it is possible to assume, that Robert Kocharyan with pleasure has accepted this order because the bargain promises mutual advantages». The editor asserts that the instable situation created as a result of the Armianian-Georgia conflict will allow Russia not to withdraw military base from Ahalkalaki that will make impossible the introduction of Georgia into the NATO. «Robert Kocharyan wins the following - in Armenia will be declared, the martial law that will allow to postpone presidential elections of 2003 for uncertain time» - asserts Nicol Pashinyan.

In other publication of the newspaper under heading of Anti-Georgian propaganda has begun", it is marked, that on Sunday Public TV of Armenia has shown film about Armenians living in Abkhazia, about their participation in operations against Georgia during the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict. «The impression is created, that with similar propaganda actions, Armenia started «cold war» against Georgia», - writes «Aikakan Jamanak».

In the meantime, according to Georgian MASS-MEDIA, the high-ranking official representative of NATO declared, that North Atlantic Treaty Organization is not going to soften the position in a question on performance by Russia of conditions of the Contract on usual armed forces in Europe and decisions of Istanbul (1999) summit of OSCE about conclusion of Russian military bases from territory of Georgia. As informed in the press center of mission of Georgia in the NATO, this high-ranking official, wished to remain not named, declared, that any changes in a position of an alliance on these questions are not present and will not be.

As he said, published on October 1, on the eve of visit of Russian president Vladimir Putin to Brussels in British by «Financial Times», the article on this subject with opposite conclusions «is rather far from the validity». In article published in «Financial Times», the author writes, that in negotiations of president Putin in headquarters of the NATO, the problem of a conclusion of the Russian military bases from territory of Georgia hardly will rise, as support of Moscow is necessary for the West for realization of military operation against Afghanistan.

The position of the NATO in questions of performance of the Contract about usual armed forces in Europe and decisions of the Istanbul summit of OSCE was precisely fixed by Russia at sessions by ministerial council foreign has put also defenses of the countries of alliance in 1999-2001 years and any changes has not undergone, the representative of the NATO emphasized. The position of the NATO is, that Russia in due time should strictly carry out the decisions passed in Istanbul on a conclusion from territory of Georgia of the military bases, he told. In any other case, he emphasized, the leadership of the NATO does not see an opportunity of introduction in action of the adapted Contract about usual armed forces in Europe.
