Armed conflicts between
Georgian guerrillas and Abkhazian reservists have been reported on Wednesday
near village of Georgiev of Gulripshsky district of Abkhazia
approximately at distance of 50 kilometers from Sukhumi, Foreign Minister of the
Republic of Abkhazia, Sergey Shamba informed. He has no data on losses of both
sides. On his data, on Thursday in this direction regular Abkhazian units will
be advanced.
Sergey
Shamba declared: «Abkhazia is getting ready for reciprocal measures, therefore
cleaning of Kodorsky gorge is not excluded, and
it can cause analogies to known events in Gal area in May, 1998». As he said,
in case of development of local clashes into large scale armed actions will be
considered as planned on October 9 in Tbilisi as a renewal after a six-monthly
break of negotiations under aegis of Coordination Council of the United Nations.
Meanwhile,
on Thursday special representative of the Secretary general of United Nations
for Georgian-Abkhaz settlement, Diter Boden, during a meeting in Tbilisi with
State minister, George Arsenishvili and minister of special affairs, Malhaz
Kakabadze expressed concern on the situation in Kodorsky gorge.
As
told Diter Boden to journalists, the agreement reached on September 28 in
Tbilisi the president of Georgia Eduard
Shevardnadze
and Abkhazian Prime Minister, Anri Jergeniya on disbandment of unknown armed
formation in Kodorsky gorge is not pursued. Malhaz Kakabadze informed, that on
the unconfirmed data, the armed firing in Kodorsky gorge on Wednesday really
took place, but data about killed or wounded are not present. In opinion of
minister on special affairs of Georgia, there could be casual shots, internal
conflicts or actions of uncontrollable.
