Russian intellegentsia,
who like discussing the meaning of Russia, frequently talk about Saint
Russia or Third Rome, but she always miss its dark side, which allows to combine
different facts into conceptual mosaic. it would seem in any way not
astringent among themselves. I frequently remember a fragment from the novel
of "The other " of one of the most penetrating writers of XX
century – Jorge Luis Borges.
In this novel,
collocutor of the main character, having found out, that he has taken a great
interest in novel of Dostoyevsky “Besy”(Demons), utters at this occasion:
"Russian classic as any other body has deeply penetrated into labyrinths of
Slavic soul". People, considering themselves god-bearer, have the Satan
soul! But whether it is worth to be surprised at? The devil never admits that he
is a devil, for he is liar and slanderer. However, we will address to facts.
There are many
versions concerning origin and meaning of the term "Russia"(in Russian
– Rossia). There is no need to list them all. Majority of them do not maintain
any criticism. American scientist John Meyendorf in his book "Byzantium
and Rise of Russia" convincingly proves, that the word "Russia" (Сщуйб)
is Greek and for the first time is mentioned in Byzantine chronicles in X
century. Really, it has Greek form of the name of countries - Ionia, Boeotia,
Syria, Asia & Mesopotamia. For Slavic names of the countries are
characteristic of other form – Smolenshchina, Novgorodchina, Turetchina,
Ugorshina. Up to XV century, Russian named their country as "Russkaya
zemlya”, and only then adopted Greek designation.
Russia can be
translated, as the country of people Rhos'. Origin of people Rhos’
is not clear. It is interesting that for the first time, its name is mentioned
not in notes of merchants or travelers, but in the prophetical literature. For
the first time, word "Rhos" (Сщт) meets in
Greek translation of the book of prophet Ezechiel, identified by many with
Quranic prophet Zulkifl, executed in 271 AD in Alexandria and enlisted in
collection of books of Old Testament of Septuagint ("translation of 70
interpreters"). There, the word of "Rhos" designates numerous
demonic people, who will appear before The Doomsday "from limits of North"
(Ez. 38 : 2-6). More than thousand years passed, and predicted people were
identified with historical one.
They came from the
North, called themselves "Rus'" and amazed imagination of
contemporaries with their cruelty. Chroniclers inform, that its population
increased, having landed at coast of Asia Minor in 941, began to kill
civilians brutally. They crucified prisoners, shot from bows and drove nails in
their heads. Another example was defense of prince Svyatoslav in Bulgarian
fortress Dorostol in 971. Appeared in ambush, he ordered to kill local residents
in ritual purposes, and to drown their babies in Danube. This episode even is
embodied in "History of the Russian state" of Karamzin. Having mixed
up with the Slavs, this nation has generated the Russians.
Characteristics of
Slavs, which fixed in European languages, are very interesting. Words -
the Slav, slave, slavelike, slavish, sloven – have the same root & origin.
Common meanings of these words is not chance nor accord, because before
appearance of the Slavs in VII c., slaves in Europe were named by Latin word
"servus". These values in many respects explain surprising ability of
Slavs to borrowing, mainly, from West. It explains, why streets of Russian
cities always are dirtier, than in Europe.
Slavs and nation Rhos
created Russia. The Europeans named Russia as Tataria in Renaissance. The
semantic shade of the second name is indicative. Tataria it is conformable both
with word Tartar (Tatar), and with word Tartarus (tartar, hell). In Greek
mythology Tartar is the chasm lying below the hell. Many marked gloomy breadth
of cold open spaces of Russia, which has swallowed up armies of Napoleon and
Hitler. Tartar is the chaos, which in opposite to the ordered cosmos. The
disorder has been in Russia since the beginning. The remarkable argument of
Slavic elders, when they called demonical people Rhos: " Our land is great
and plentiful, but order is not present in it".
Already in XX century,
the country is bearing a name of demonic people and a hell, received the third
name - "Evil Empire”. Three names (Russia, Tataria, Empire of Evil) –
has got one sense. Russian intellectuals loving to argue about "a new word"
and mission of Russia, always overlook the aspect, that the mission may be
satanic.
