Security
measures in Ukraine during visit of Rime Pope ‘cross some boarders and
sometimes remind state of emergency”.
Organizing committee of Church that is preparing the visit of Pope to
Ukraine is concerned in that the “emergence measures of security” provided
by low enforcement structures of Ukraine may provoke enmity against Pope and
also will not give a possibility for all comers to meet with him. Head of the
committee bishop Stanislav Shirokoraduke informed that the organizing committee
receives appeals regarding leaflets stuck along streets in Kiev. It is written in these leaflets that at the appointed time
people should not go out to street, to open windows or to look out of them and
these “emergence measures of security” are taken “because of the arrival
of Pope according to request of Vatican side.”
From
words of Shirokoraduke the leaflets are written on behalf of State Guards of
Ukraine, Security Service of Ukraine and Ministry for Internal Affairs.
“It is very negative because Vatican side never asks for such kind of
measures. All responsibility for
the security bears the state that accepts the most holy Pope,” he remarked. As
one example of “emergence measures” Shirokoraduke cited a situation when a
bus with pilgrims from Belorussia was stopped on a checkpoint of the state
automobile inspection (SAI) on entrance to Kiev from Chernigov side.
The pilgrims made application of their arrival beforehand.
The bus stood at the checkpoint till 1am. And then it was dispatched on a
parking ground for tourists in Dnepr where people even were not allowed to go
out of the bus. In response to the
protest of the organizing committee representatives of SAI admitted that they
‘made an error” because they “did not hope that pilgrims will start to
arrive so early”.
The
bishop is anxious about that the low enforcement structures “will only block
entrance to Kiev and won’t help people to get on the airfield “Chaika”.”
“Low enforcement structures and security organs in the whole world perform
their functions in order to aid people to meet with most holy Pope but in
Ukraine they understand it in other way,” he remarked and added “And who
will later take response for that the people did not succeed to arrive to the
meeting?”
