On
the eve of the official meeting with the Russian President Vladimir Putin U.S.
President George Bush stated that he wants to see Russia as an ally and partner
for the cause of strengthening peace. While on a visit in Poland the American president expressed a
hope that Russia, on its way of freedom and democracy, helps the reinforcement
of European security. At the same
time he stated that expansion of NATO on the account of former communist
countries of East Europe, to which Moscow strongly objects, will happen, BBC
reports. When giving speech at
Warsaw University, Bush repeatedly talked about the completion of the epoch of
the cold war and the emergence of new democratic European states by telling
specifically, "The bell of freedom has rung. There is no more iron curtain."
Talks
of the American and Russian presidents will take place in Ljubljana. During the
talks, in particular, plans of Washington for the creation of national
anti-rocket defense will be discussed. President
Bush told that he will express the apprehension of USA over further spread of
nuclear weapons on the meeting with the Russian president on Saturday.
Meanwhile, an influential American newspaper "Washington Post"
reported that this year a Russian ship delivered to Iran high-quality aluminum,
which according to assertions was used for the production of nuclear weapons.
As Condolisa Rice, adviser of the president for the issues of national
security, stated such shipments can assist Iran in establishing the production
of mass destruction weapons. She
also told that Russian supplies of strategic material to other countries can
provoke difficulties in the relations between Russia and USA.
