President
of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze expresses his serious concern about kidnapping of
people that became more frequent in the country.
In the traditional radio interview the head of the state informed that
this problem was discussed on a special meeting of Council for National Security
of Georgia, which took place on the last week.
In the words of Eduard Shevardnadze on the meeting he signed a decree the
realization of which is necessary for restoration of “complete order” in the
country. According to him, responsibility of law enforcement bodies for security
of citizens of Georgia and foreigners working in the country will rise
dramatically in accordance to the decree. In
addition the president declared that suppression of such kind barbarous
criminality is our common problem. Justifications
like “more terrible thing happen in other countries, including more strong
states” can’t calm any one, Shevardnadze remarked.
He demanded from Georgian police to take every measure for reveling
crimes connected to people kidnapping. The
government, in its turn, must support law enforcement structures properly, what
is extremely important when taking into account that only during last week 5
officials of police died in the struggle against criminals, president
Shevardnadze stated. Unknown
men kidnapped student Levan Kaladze, brother of Kakha Kaladze, a football-player
of Georgian National Team and Italian «Milan» in May, in Tbilisi. A Levan
businessman working in Georgia was kidnapped in the capital on last week.
Still, nothing is known about 2 Spain men who were kidnapped along a road
to Tbilisi airport on November in the last year.
Kidnappers
of 34-year-old Levan businessman Sharbel Bashar Anu did not contact with his
family yet. As procurator of Isani-Samgorsk region Vaja Abakelia stated,
according to a common version of kidnapping it is done to get ransom although,
no one appealed with such demands to his family members.
In his words, as there are witnesses of the kidnapping they failed to
make photo-robots of kidnappers because neither driver of the kidnapped nor
guard of the office couldn’t remember faces of the kidnappers after a passed
stress. A Levan businessman
was kidnapped in his car by armed persons on Kindzmarauli Street on June 7.
“Niva” car of the Levan man was found on a highway leading to Tbilisi
airport after several hours by officials of law enforcement structures.
The Levan businessman had a firm “Agrotechnics” in Kindzmarauli
Street and was engaged in import of bananas and chicken meat to Georgia.
Operative services of law enforcement structures are maximally mobilized
and all exits from the capital especially highway Tbilisi-Kakheti, are
controlled because of this event Nevertheless,
the Ministry for Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia declared that the intensified
swoops, which were carried out because of the criminal situation in the country
and kidnappings, which became more frequent, have brought some positive results.
As the head of general inspection of MIA of Georgia Nugzar Gabrichidze
declared in his press conference tens of persons who were searched are arrested,
several crimes were suppressed and hundreds of drunk drivers were detained in
the course of the swoops, which lasted for 10 days. Subdivisions of MIA continue to carry out the swoops and the
personal staff of the police is transferred to a strict regime of working in
accordance to the order of Shevardnadze.
