Ilyas Akhmadov - Minister of Foreign Affairs of
Chechen Republic Ichkeriya has met in Washington with representative of State
Department of USA and adviser on problems of independent states John Berli.
Akhmadov informed that during his meeting, the issue of observance of human
rights in Chechen Republic and prospects of negotiations with government of
Russia were discussed. The meeting of representative of new American
administration with Akhmadov has caused sharp criticism in Kremlin though
similar meetings with representatives of government of Maskhadov occurred in
Washington earlier too. On the eve of meeting, State Department condemned series
of explosions in Northern Caucasus and called for political solution of Chechen
conflict.

Akhmadov was called “Immoral” by Russia. As official representative of
Ministries of Foreign Affairs Alexander Yakovenko declared today, " New
American administration has shown, on whose side, it really is in the
international struggle against terrorism "
Gennady Seleznyov - Speaker of the State Dumas asked
USA to hand over Ilias Akhmadov -Minister for Foreign Affairs in Maskhadov's
government to Russia. About this Seleznyov declared in Berlin, where he is on
his official visit as head of Russian parliamentary delegation. He harshly
criticized administration of USA, whose representatives have held meeting with
Akhmadov, despite protests of Kremlin. The Russian speaker considers that
negotiations with Chechen Minister "will not bring any honor to Foreign
Policy Department of USA". Earlier with similar announcements were issued
by Sergey Yastrjembski - assistant to President of Russia, and also Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation. In Moscow, it is clearly emphasized that
Washington is pursuing policy of "double standards". A series of acts
of terrorism were carried out in Russia on March 26, when the meeting was held
in Washington. "On the same day, State Department arranged to receive envoy
of Maskhadov and to condemn simultaneously acts of terrorism in Stavropol",
- as declared in Kremlin. In opinion of Moscow "official circles of
Washington try to justify this unfriendly act concerning Russia with intention
to find out opinion of Ahmadov on present situation in Chechen Republic".
" Washington is not interested for some reason in the position of legal
head of Chechen Republic Ahmad Kadirov. After his visit to USA in September of
the last year, he could not find time to receive any American official
representative; and now no special enthusiasm of State Department is observed to
invite Kadirov and to listen to his point of view ", - as was especially
emphasized in Kremlin.
Americans still did not react in any way to nervous
announcements of Moscow, fairly believing that the meeting with Chechen Minister
for Foreign Affairs for today is more important than demarches of Pro-Kremlin
political structures.
Chechen side in turn specifies that meeting with
official representatives of State Department of USA was rather productive and
was a step towards promoting further understanding on real situation in Caucasus
and real, but not imaginary dangers of stability in this region.
